FALSE PROPHETS

In the New Testament, Jesus said, "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets" (Luke 6:26).

He warned his disciples to beware of false prophets "who come... in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves" Mt 7:15).

When speaking of the signs of the times and the end of the age, He also said, "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect" (Matt. 24:11,24).

FALSE CHRISTS. Those who falsely claim to be the Messiah, as foretold by Jesus (Mt 24:24; Mk 13:22). Nothing is known of the historical fulfillment of this prophecy, but Josephus (Wars 7.11.1) mentions Jonathan as a pretender.
