Pilate Picture
Jesus and Pilate by Antonio Ciseri
Pontius Pilate was considered a myth according to scholars until recent discoveries. Among
them is this dedication stone that archaeologists unearthed while excavating an
ancient ampitheatre near Caesarea (on the Sea). The inscription reads as
follows:
First Line: TIBERIEUM,
Second Line: (PON) TIUS PILATUS,
Third Line: (PRAEF) ECTUS IUDA (EAE)
The stone is part of a larger statement of dedication to
Tiberius Caesar' by Pontius Pilate, Prefect of
Judea.
