Ancient Egyptian Daily Life - Vessels

Vessels for Kohl Vessels for Kohl
Ancient Egyptian vessels for holding kohl, a black poweder produced by burning the shells of almonds and used as an eye ornament or some for supposed medicinal properties. The kohl was applied to the eyelids by using a small probe of wood, ivory or silver tapering towards the end but blunt; this is sometimes moistened with rose water, then dipped in the powder and drawn along the edges of the eyelids.
