One who managed an inn.
In Old Testament times, most travelers stayed in private dwellings or slept in
the open.
By New Testament times some people managed inns (Lk 10:35) which were often
not very comfortable or safe.
Mary and
Joseph stopped at a larger private dwelling, because it was the custom for such
homeowners to rent out dwelling quarters during festival times (Lk 2:7).
