(Pirathon): Far'ata. Greek name for Pirathon, 1 Macc. 9:50. After the conquests of Israel under Joshua, it was given to Ephraim. Pirathon was the birthplace and burial place of the Judge Abdon, son of Hillel. It was located in the land of Ephraim, in the Mount of the Amalekites (Judg 12:14-15). It was also the home town of Benaiah, one of David's "mighty men" (II Sam 23:30).

Today it has been identified with the Arab village of Farata, SW of Shechem.
