mina
Mina (Heb. maneh, a "portion," the original of the Lat. moneta and our money;
(1 Ki 10:17; Ezra 2:69; Neh 7:71-72; Ezek 45:12), "maneh"; Gk. mna, (Lk
19:13-25).
From (Ezek 45:12) it appears that there were 60 holy shekels in a mina,
whereas from the passages in Kings and Chronicles it is evident that a mina was
equivalent to 100 shekels. These latter Keil thinks were the common shekels, 100 of
which would make only 50 holy (i.e., Mosaic) shekels. Sixty minas formed a
talent. The mina contained 100 drachmas.
