Thurii
An ancient city of Magna Graecia, S Italy, in Bruttium, on the Gulf of Tarentum. It was founded by Pericles in 443 B.C. to replace ruined Sybaris. New Greek
colonists came who later allied with Rome and Thurii was pillaged in 204 BC by Hannibal. Rome revived the colony in 193 BC, but it did not thrive.
