The Holy Crown
Turban (Heb. misnepet, "wound around"). According to Josephus and Philo the
turban of
the high priest consisted of an ordinary priest's cap with a turban of dark
blue color over it. On the front of this latter was a diadem of pure
gold (i.e., a thin gold plate) on which was engraved "Holy to the Lord," fastened
with a dark blue cord <Exo. 28:36-38; 39:30-31>.
