Debt Slaves and Prisoners of War

assyrian_head.jpg There were different forms of slaves, whether it was the debt slave, or the prisoner of war, these were the lowest on the ladder of social status. Most slaves were debtors or children of debtors. Anyone born in a family was considered blessed and slaves were common within a family, especially a wealthy family. Slaves were actually allowed to work out in return for monthly payments to his master. The more obedient and the more training, the more returns. The less obedient and the prisoners of war were forced to become "people of restricted freedom" and to work in the temple or palace.
